What is this course about?

People with disabilities in developing countries have to be very resilient and creative just to get by in their day-to-day lives. They are frequently overlooked or excluded from economic activities including development activities, and may not even have access to basic facilities or services. This course helps you to understand disability both as a development and a human rights issue. You will learn practical steps to assure inclusion of people with disabilities in your projects, in your organisation or institution, and be more familiar about donor requirements with regard to inclusion.

Participants

This course is relevant if you are working in international development or for a government body and are involved in policy development, project planning, monitoring & evaluation or project implementation.

Course objectives

At the end of the course you will:

• Learn how to identify and address barriers that exclude people with disabilities from development initiatives;
• Analyse your own organisation or institution with respect to inclusiveness;
• Mainstream practices
